Well that's a long process name! Having just upgraded my network to a 11g network I found that my computers CPU usage was up from around the 3% mark it was now using about 55%. What the heck was going on! I did the ctrl + alt + delete to bring up task manager scrolled down the list there was WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe hogging the CPU. I did a quick search on the internet some folk think its a trojan, spyware, adware. What I did find was its installed by the belkin software for the router or wireless card. It comes from software XpDis0Conf belonging to XPDisable0Conf.
The file WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe can be found C:\Program Files\Belkin\Belkin 54Mbps Wireless Utility\TOOL if you accepted the default values when installing. What I do based on info gained elsewhere is boot up and let WinXPDisableZeroConfigation run once your computer is up and running use task manager ( ctrl + alt + delete ) to end the process. I have not found any problems as yet. Whats your experiences of WinXPDisableZeroConfigation? ![]() |

Found this
To stop WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe from running at startup follow the instructions below. To do this you need to be an Administrator on the machine in question. Please read this first before you start. If this sounds too much for you use the above method using ctrl + alt + delete to end the process. Click start, run In the run box type msconfig and then click o.k. Click on the startup tab, should be the last tab on the right Uncheck winxpdisablezeroconfig.exe And then click apply and then OK, reboot computer. Using the process above will stop this process from running and will not cause any other problems." Now you have read this read it again just to make sure you understand what you are about to do. |

Having myself just done the above but without the reboot last night. All seems OK.
However I have just done a reboot. Once windows loads it gives a I'm a spammer send me mail saying You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts. Etc Etc..... Basically put a tick in the tick box and the I'm a spammer send me mail will not show again unless you use the System Configuration Utility again for some reason. Hope this helps, |

Having had to switch off all my equipment due to the reset storms we have had. I can to reboot my system at this stage I thought that I had had a power surge since I could not connect to my network and could not see it. I could however connect to another network. I used another computer on my network to see if my connection was OK that too did not see the network. At this point I remembered about turning WinXPDisableZeroConfigation off. I used msconfig to re- enable WinXPDisableZeroConfigation using the above method, re-booted still I could not see the network. So after pulling lots of hair out and using restore my computer but still nothing so the beer came out and off went the computer. The following day I fired up the system and everthing worked! In my inbox I found an e-mail from my service provider saying the line had been down for sometime but everything should be OK now! So before you you start blaming WinXPDisableZeroConfigation check everything first! I was blaming WinXPDisableZeroConfigation and my problem this time did not really have anything to do with WinXPDisableZeroConfigation, so remember if you turn it off turn it back on if you have to re-boot you can always turn it off again.

Stevej,
Remember you may need it to connect to the internet when you reboot I would not go down the msconfig route as after a while you forget that you have disabled it and how you did it. Just use ctrl+alt Delete when the task manager opens click on the properties tab at the top look down the list for WinXPDisableZeroConfigation highlight it and click on end process that way yes I know its a pain but it loads and you can connect to the internet. |

I have disabled WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe using msconfig and I am not having a problem with the internet at the moment but if I do I will go and stick a tick back in the box. I will also post a reply on to this forum. Edited by admin - 08 Jun 2008 at 3:32pm |

Since I stopped WinXPDisa... I have had no freezing, crashes etc and Firefox loads as quickly as IE6. My pc is also running noticeably quicker also, so, unless someone knows of a good reason to keep WinXPDisa... running I will stay as I am now.

Hi stevej,
Glad to hear your PC is running faster after disabling WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe Thanks for coming back and letting people know of your experience with WinXPDisableZeroConfigation.exe. The more people who come back and let us know the better we can understand this awful bit of software, if you can call it that! Edited by admin - 08 Jun 2008 at 3:33pm |
